My Favorite FW20 Trends

Fall is the best time for fashion. It’s when all the luxe materials like leather, velvet, and wool come out. And the rest of the fashion world agrees with me (have you ever seen how thick the September issue of Vogue is?). Despite the chaos going on in the world right now, FW20 trends are still happening and I’m loving them.

I took a look at some of the upcoming trends for this fall/winter season and picked out my favorites that I will definitely be rocking this year.

Leather/Faux Leather

Leather is always on trend for the colder months, which is why a leather jacket will never go out of style. For FW20, you’ll see more than just leather jackets, though.

Leather skirts, tops, and dresses are going to be must-have items this season. You’ll also find leathers in a lot of colors and patters besides your standard blacks and browns. I love a good oxblood leather jacket or a snake print leather skirt.

Obviously, if you prefer not to wear leather, you can always opt to rock this trend with faux leather instead. Nanushka has some really great faux leather pieces.

70s Revival

One of my favorite FW20 trends is the 70s revival trend. Sure, the 70s have been back in style for a while, but they were replaced by the 80s during the last couple of seasons. I blame Stranger Things. I’m personally not as big of a fan of 80s fashion as 70s fashion, so I’m glad to see my favorite decade is back.

Whether you’re a bohemian rock n’ roller or a disco queen, all the trends of the 70s are going to be back this season. You’ll want to look out for muted colors, 70s-inspired tailoring, and rich materials like suede, velvet, and corduroy. Scarves, belts, and oversized sunglasses will be killer accessories.

Statement Sleeves

I’m so happy that statement sleeves are going to be on-trend this season. I’ve always been a huge fan of statement sleeves. Honestly, the bolder the better when it comes to sleeves. You really can’t go too wild.

For a more feminine take on statement sleeves, look for ruffles, bows, and balloon sleeves. For a more edgy take on them, look for bell sleeves, embellishments, and even distressed sleeves.

Fringe

If 70s revival is trending for this season, then obviously fringe will too. Fringe is a great way to add movement and excitement to a look. It’s actually super diverse and can be used as a minimalist accent or a statement finish.

If you’re nervous that fringe might be a little too wild, you can always pair it with an all-black outfit to tone everything down. Really, fringe should be the centerpiece to your look anyways since it’s pretty hard for other pieces to compete with it.

Cool Collars

I’ve never really played with exciting collars on my shirts too much, but it looks like this season is going to be my chance. For a bold approach to this trend, you can look for tops with super dramatic and ornate collars. For a more wearable and understatement approach, you can opt for a bright or patterned collared shirt under a neutral blazer or coat.

Room Tour: Office Nook

Thanks to Arizona’s insane COVID-19 numbers, my temporary work-from-home situation has become a little more permanent. I was previously using a dining chair and petite vanity desk as an office space, but that setup sucked after working for 12-14 hours a day.

The first thing I needed was a proper adult-sized desk. I absolutely fell in love with this marble-topped Fullerton Modular Desk. I really wish I could have marble throughout my house, but I can’t afford that so I guess a desk will have to do.

Next, I needed an office chair. Due to space and budget limitations, I couldn’t really get away with getting one of those giant ergonomic office chairs like I had at my office. Instead, I opted for this Flannigan Task Chair which was comfortable and had enough back support for me.

Lastly, I needed some cute decor items. I opted for luxe desk accessories like a faux leather round mousepad, a Franklin Double Old-Fashioned Glass that I use as a pen holder, and a Ring Petrified Ring Coaster for my morning coffee.

I’m eventually going to convert my entire guest room into a home office/lounge with a 70s desert vibe. To give my office nook more of that feel, I hung up some green velvet curtains and snagged a Classic Aerium and Oasis in the Desert from Pistils Nursery. I also hung up my Bite It Scorpion Mirror from White Hot Fire Mirrors. If you’re ever looking for a hand-etched mirror to give your room more of a 70s biker edge, this is your place.

Review: Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask

With the stress of everything going on in the world right now, more alcohol than usual, and a comfort food diet, my skin is not doing its best. I’ve been eyeing the Blue Tansy Invisible Pores Resurfacing Clarity Mask from Herbivore for a while now, so I thought it would be the perfect time to test it out.

The Review

Usually when you have oily skin, you’re stuck with clay-based masks. While clay masks work wonders for my skin, it would definitely be nice to use a different type of mask every once in a while. The Blue Tansy Invisible Pores Resurfacing Clarity Mask is the first mask I’ve seen that’s specifically made for oily and acne-prone skin that isn’t a clay mask or a super intense acid.

According to the instructions that came in the box, you’re supposed to use the mask by applying a thin layer, waiting 15-20 minutes, and rinsing off. For best results, they suggest using it for 3-4 days in a row and then 1-2 times a week after that.

First off, let me warn you that this mask has a strong herbal smell. It’s not a bad smell, just a strong one. Even after washing it off I could still smell it on my hands for a while. If you’re super sensitive to smells, I might suggest skipping this mask.

The color of the mask is a gorgeous blue-green. Apparently the color can vary from batch to batch and can even change over time. Herbivore’s website states that a color change is normal and doesn’t reflect the product’s effectiveness. It’s also a very watery gel-like consistency.

When I put the mask on, there was an instant cooling sensation. As it dried, the sensation died down. I never felt any tingling or burning. My skin also never felt tight or dry, unlike with clay masks.

I was able to use the mask for 4 days in a row without any irritation. This is a gentle resurfacing mask, so you’re not going to see your skin peeling off or anything. Overall, my skin does feel way smoother. My pores do look a little smaller, but that also may be due to the fact that the mask is helping to unclog them.

Overall, I gave this mask a 4/5 because I loved the color and texture. It was fairly effecting in shrinking my pores by unclogging them and it left my skin silky smooth. It’s also a very gentle resurfacing mask, so I didn’t end up with any irritation or redness. I would definitely add this mask to my regular skincare routine.
