Leather On Leather

If there’s one item that I own a lot of, it’s black leather. Black leather is trending for spring, and that wasn’t exactly a hard trend for me to get on board with. While I don’t base my wardrobe entirely off of trends, this trend was too easy for me not to follow.

If you’re in the market for good leather items but don’t want to spend a ton of money, I highly suggest looking into the secondhand market. If taken care of properly, leather is one of those materials that will last a lifetime. Designer leather goods tend to go for less on the secondhand markets, so you can get your hands on something that was originally $1000, for just a few hundred dollars.

This studded cap is from The Kooples (secondhand from Vestiaire Collective), my Metallica tee is from secondhand brand Furst Of A Kind, and my yellow snake print Chloe boots are secondhand from The RealReal.

I’ve had my black leather jacket since I was in college and it’s still as great as the day I bought it. My bag is from AllSaints and it’s actually faux leather. My shorts are from female-owned leather brand Understated Leather. I remember when Understated Leather was a small brand doing denim jackets with snappy leather patches. Over the last few years, the brand has really taken off and I’ve even seen Free People carry it.

In Suede

When I first moved from California to Arizona, I rented this cute little historic house from an elderly couple who also lived next door. They had a storage container on the shared property that was filled with all kinds of vintage treasures that they had collected over the years. After living there for over a year, the husband gifted me this amazing vintage suede jacket.

This suede jacket is really the star of this outfit. My former landlord gifted it to me after renting for over a year. It’s an original 1970s Pioneer Wear suede jacket in mint condition. He had bought brand new it for his wife on a date and she had only worn it once before it went into storage for decades.

I paired the jacket with a vintage distressed tee featuring 1970s metal band Black Sabbath. The tee is a one-of-a-kind vintage find from Furst Of A Kind. I paired it with a faux leather mini skirt from AllSaints and a pair of pre-loved Candy suede boots from Saint Laurent. Fishnet tights make wearing a mini skirt in winter more comfortable and a black faux leather camera bag from AllSaints holds everything I need.

I’m also wearing the Hellcat X Turquoise ring and The Lovers ring from Etah Love. They were kind enough to gift me the rings with absolutely no strings attached, which I thought was pretty kick ass. They’re both handcrafted in sterling silver and feel super solid. These are definitely going to be my go-to rings for motorcycle shows in the future (whenever that may be).

Vinyl Edge

If you’re ever trying to make an outfit more edgy, I definitely suggest adding a pair of vinyl pants.

I had this really beautiful Luis pussy bow blouse from Equipment, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to style it. White the shirt was pretty, comfortable, and fit super well, it was also very feminine for my wardrobe. To be honest, it was kind of giving me retro librarian vibes.

If you’re faced with the same situation, I definitely suggest adding edgy touches like vinyl, studs, or leather. Which is exactly what I ended up doing.

I paired my blouse from Equipment with vinyl pants from Raey, a pre-loved studded cap from The Kooples, and Elegant studded western booties from Givenchy. Of course, I also had my go-to AllSaints camera bag.
